Oh for goodness sakes! He aks for ideas, and all you give him is a bunch of sarcastic answers??!?! Give him a real idea--- here's one for you... ...December 31st---> Jack Camden has turned the big 3-0 this year, and his life is at it's wits ends. His wife of 6 months left him, took his kid, he has no job, he is an acholic, and since his father disowned him basically due to his problems etc. (poss. tell during dazed flashback)---> So he has no where to turn, and on December 31st something else happens bad (I dunno, make something up) and he gets so upset he is going to kill himself. He goes to the dam that they have in his state, and is about to jump off, when he hears the radio in his truck (which he conviently left on) say something about "Happy New Years" and now we get to start over... ...Jack mumbles something to himself about wishing he could start over and how that would be the best new years resolution ever, and then he jumps, but he doesn't topple, only hits his head on the celing above the dam port, and falls unconcious to the floor. Fade out... ...Fade in. Jack has been given his second chance, he is now a 30 year old minded man in a 9 year olds body. Of course you have fun with it, but eventually he is confronted with a life changing situation, but this time makes the RIGHT choice and lives happily ever after.
There, that's my idea, like it, you can have it, hate it, so be it. Anywayz, just don't jump on people who can't think up stories and ask for help.

Sorry, Disney has done that already (and better) in the movie "The Kid". Btw, why does it always have to be oiver-the-top dramatic (alcoholic/unemployed/divorced etc.). Full Monty was successful because the main characters were not complete failures but just ordinary decent chaps who lost their jobs.
As for movie ideas: imho especially as an indie filmmaker you have to shine with your ideas as you probably won't have much money to spend on set, actors or special/fx. Leave the ripoff and rehash to Hollywood. Need inspiration? Flesh out the following:
1) City trader discovers a mysterious message encoded in the price pattern of financial instruments, pointing to a terrible secret that could destabilize the world's financial system.
2) Upon exploring an old, haunted mansion a female private eye unleashes an ancient evil force which tries to take over the world but fails to even get past the detective. Its long slumber has not prepared it for dealing with modern grrls, let alone the 21st century world.
3) Joe's wife is sick with cancer. He tries his best to make ends meet for her and their three kids when his GP tells him he has contracted modified CJD from infected beef (a special one for all you drama queens out there).

Oh lord! First you trample my idea by comparing it to "The Kid" which is nothing like it, in that movie Bruce Willis meets his former self, in this he becomes his former self. And then you go about suggesting the kind of mundaine (sp?) repetitive plots that always arrive in indie films. CIA, FBI, why indie films always seem to be obsessed with visual f/x and "How many things can I blow up" I don't know. Mysterious messages, Ancient evil, can we say stoopid! And the last one is just plain ridiculous. So if you want to critizize my ideas, go ahead, but at least have something to back it up with! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Indie films obsessed with visual f/x? CIA? FBI? Err...please read posts you reply to properly before rambling nonsense.
Each idea starts off with a standard plot but has a twist in it:
1) A lot of conspiracy movies have been made but none dealt with the financial markets in particular afaik. "X-Files" meets "Wall Street" if you want.
2) The "evil force" in this case is not blair-witchy or evil-deadly but hilariously inept. The closest to that would be "Evil Dead 2" but there the force was actually quite potent. In this version it isn't.
3) Using BSE for a family drama would be a first and new. Depends on the scriptwriter how he fleshes it out.
Your idea is nothing more than "Family Man" meets "The Kid" - which is nothing bad in principle. A lot of movies take ideas from other films - and if you want to sell your film in a 30 sec cocktail party pitch the best thing is telling which movies it resembles as the financier gets a rough idea what it's all about (talking from experience here).
It's just that studios are probably flooded with ideas/scripts like these as similar movies are doing well at the box office atm.

Your ideas are exactly what we wrote, except that you tried to make them sound better. They suck ass and that's why you gave them away. Actually you two who pretended to help are the real hypocrates, since you tried to fool everybody by making them believe you had good ideas.
All of them are typical Hollywood screens, that no one would ever remember. Why waste time and money on such crap, that everybody has seen anyway (and then try to hide that one doesn't have any good ideas)? Stick with our original idea.

BSE a typical Hollywood screen? Do you even READ a post before you reply crap to it?
And what is your cool idea, ninjamonkie? Of course you keep the best idea for yourself. The guy asked for inspiration not our best ideas.
Besides, simple ideas for simple minds. The great majority of cinemagoers fancy a good night out and are not that much bothered by artie movies. Hence why Hollywood has a near-monopoly on blockbusters.

WHY are you posting here if you want to make blockbusters?
Did you read his topic before replying?

I dont remember reading it.

top tip for getting ideas,
11am in the morning head down to the nearest pub,
consume lots of alcohol then go onto a nightclub. stop drinking roughly 4am in the morning
then stay awake for the next week, and eat lots of cheese
if the halucinations havent kicked in by then , trust me your going to have very f*cked up dreams
